6 ayurvedic mantras to ensure better sleep

Add rose and jasmine oils to your evening bath

Before you set off to bed, it is suggested that you take a warm bather with jasmine and rose essential oils. Both these aromatherapy oils help in reducing stress, opening the heart and purifying negative thoughts. The aim of ayurvedic ritual is to arrange the mindset in a relaxing manner so that you enjoy serene.

Try out alternate breathing

Sit comfortably on your bed and slowly close your eyes. Close your right nose and breathe in through the left. Then, shut your left nose and breathe out through the right. Repeat the breathing exercise for 8 to 10 minutes. This technique decreases the vata and also helps in balancing right and left hemispheres of out brain.

Alternatively, you can also practice Brahmari breathing method. Simply breathe in and when you breathe out, say ?ohm? in a slow and calm voice. Repeat it for about five minutes.

Consume warm milk with a dash of nutmeg

The power of warm milk is held high in ayurvedic rituals. It is believed that warm milk has soothing and healing properties as it consists of L-tryptophan which is an amino acid, acting as a forerunner to melatonin and serotonin that encourages sleep.

Adding nutmeg to the warm milk helps in enhancing the flavor and also puts you to bed in the most comfortable and peaceful fashion.

Rub naval and temples with ghee

For self-massage, ghee stands out as one of the ideal substances in traditional ayurveda. It helps to cool and calm the body and provides oleation and hydration to our system. When you massage the naval and temples with ghee, it functions to balance the vata by countering it?s dehydrated properties and lessens pitta due to its sweet and cool properties.

Massage feet and scalp

Rubbing the feet gently is an effective ayurvedic ritual that should be done every night before bed. There are more than 7,000 nerve endings present on both legs. Hence, massaging the feet helps in loosening the entire body while melting away stress and worries. On the other hand, when you massage the scalp, you get to experience good sleep with a light head.

Enjoy the aroma of stress-relieving essential oils

It is suggested to add a few drops of essential oils such as jasmine, vanilla, orange, cardamom and basil on the pillow cover and on the wrist as well. This helps in soothing both physical and mental stability thus, promoting sound sleep each night.
