Ayurveda says avoid these 8 things after a meal

According to ayurveda, there are certain dos and don’ts after having lunch or dinner. Scientific researches have also backed these ayurvedic rules. Let’s find out what we should avoid immediately after having a meal. These simple tips will help digestive process and enhance the body’s ability to fight infections.

Don’t have fruits

It takes about 20-25 minutes for any fruit (except banana) to reach your stomach and get digested in the intestines. So when you have a fruit after lunch or dinner it gets stuck with the food, and thus take more time to get digested. As a result, your food also takes time to get digested.

Don’t drink cold water

Cold water immediately afte food affect digestons because it causes clumping of food. However, hot water helps to absorb nutrients better.

Don’t walk

Do not walk immediately after a meal. It leads to acid reflux and indigestion. But walking about half an hour after meals is good for health.

Don’t take a bath

Taking a bath after a meal increases the flow of blood to your hands and legs. As a result, the amount of blood around the stomach will reduce, weakening the digestive system.

Don’t drink tea or coffee

If you drink tea or coffee immediately after meals, the food will not get digested properly, leading to gastric problem. However, you can have tea or coffee after one hour.

Tea contains compound that absorbs the essence of your food. For example, Tannin, a compound found in tea, affects the absorption of protein. Tea also affects iron absorption.

Don’t swim or do exercise

Swimming or any physical exercise should be done after at least 30 minutes after having a meal, otherwise, more blood is will be drawn to your gastrointestinal tract after eating, which can cause minor cramps.

Don’t smoke

Smoking a cigarette immediately after meal is like smoking 10 cigarettes. This can lead to chances of cancer, as a cigarette contains as many as 60 carcinogens, which cause cancer.

Don’t sleep

If you lie down immediately after a meal, some digestive juices from the stomach may flow back to the esophagus because of gravitational force, and due to its acidic nature it can burn the inner layer of the esophagus.
