Oct 10, 2017: Food is the most important part of weight loss, so it’s important to eat the right foods in order to lose weight. The Mediterranean diet is the best diet for losing weight, according to a recent report. High fat diets aren’t bad as long as they contain the right kinds of fats, like the Mediterranean Diet. The latest study released confirms eating a high fat diet will help you lose weight.
the study conducted a survey with more than 7,000 men aged 55 to 80. The men in the study were monitored over a five year period. They consumed a diet that comprised of fish, fruit, veggies and nuts. Their diets didn’t contain red meat, sugar, or butter. Researchers assigned three different versions of the Mediterranean diet among the men.
The first included an unrestricted calorie diet that included extra virgin olive oil, while the second diet added nuts, and the third diet was low-fat. Those who included olive oil in their diet saw the highest weight loss, and the dieters saw the lowest increase in waist size when they used olive oil.
This is significant since abdominal fat is an important component in heart attack, and the men in the study were older.
Over 40 years of nutritional policy has advocated for a low-fat diet but we’re seeing little impact on rising levels of obesity. Our study shows that a Mediterranean Diet rich in vegetable fats such as olive oil and nuts had little effect on body weight or waist circumference in comparison people on a low fat diet.
Experts emphasized that although a diet high in fat is beneficial in weight loss, they also emphasized that it was important to eat the right types of fats and avoid a diet high in fats like butter or meat fat. Susan Jebb, a professor of diet and population health at the University of Oxford pointed out dieters should be careful in interpreting the results.
Susan also pointed out the fact that those who used a low-fat diet for weight loss were only able to reduce their fat intake from 40 percent to 37 percent. Doctors who recommend low fat diets for weight loss and health suggest that dieters eat about 30% of their calories from fat.
