However 73% of such individuals end up giving up their goals either due to frustration, laziness, lack of determination and patience etc.
The chief question as to why the rate of weight loss failure is so high needs to be discussed immediately and seriously. Most of the people fail due to huge goals like a 50-pound weight loss and the vastness of their commitment overpowers them.
But now a study has shown that a stealth component that is found in whole lot of foods that you consume might be stopping you from losing weight. The ingredient is none other than the additive MSG or monosodium glutamate.
What is MSG?
It is a popular flavor-enhancer that is widely used in a number of processed foods; however it is mostly connected to Chinese foods which might just explain the headaches that one experience after consumption of Chinese food. Majority of the individuals are sensitive to MSG and thus often complain about headache and nausea. In fact, some people have started to check the ingredient lists in order to ignore this weight loss hampering ingredient.
However, MSG remains hidden in a number of innocent-sounding components and the lengthier an ingredient list is, the higher the chances foods that MSG.
Majority of the health experts opined that over 80% of foods on store shelves contain MSG or components with a plagiaristic of MSG known as free glutamate.
Dr Russell Blaylock said to Newsmax Health,? Unfortunately, most of the MSG consumed in this country is done so unwittingly.?”This is because food processors have learned to hide the ingredient to prevent criticism from those who recognize MSG as harmful.”
Some of the major additives that contain MSG are soy protein concentrate, textured protein, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, yeast extract, calcium and sodium caseinate, broth ,carrageenan, hydrolyzed soy protein, plant protein extract ,whey protein concentrate, natural flavoring, malt extract and so forth.
Ill-effects of MSG on health
The number one ill-effect of MSG on your body is weight gain. A number of studies have revealed that those who consume more MSG fall prey to obesity in spite of reduced calorie intake.
Even though the connection between MSG and weight gain seems a bit vague, some experts are of the opinion that MSG can harm the hypothalamus area of the brain and have an effect on the hormone leptin which is responsible for regulation of metabolism and appetite.
Blaylock said that the ill-effects of MSG have been extremely entrenched that the matter is regularly used in investigational obesity researches on animals.
He further cautions that expecting women should avoid MSG as much as possible. Women who eat foods comprising of MSG may be trigger their kids to become obese as they grow. It is recognized that the placenta ponders on MSG with the possibility that the amount reaching the child can be considerably higher than the mother’s dose.
Another point is that MSG also affects lungs of people especially those who suffer from asthma. The cells coating the alveoli and bronchioles consist of a number of glutamate receptors. Also, they are loaded with high blood levels of glutamate that can make the receptors to exaggerate and hence, cause bronchiospasm.
After eating food that contains MSG, blood levels of glutamate may go up to 30- to 50-fold higher than regular and remain high for a long period of time.
Bad bowel syndrome
MSG may rouse the bowel muscles leading to cramping and diarrhea. Also, sensitivity to MSG becomes highlighted when your bowel is inflamed because of bad bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease etc.
It is an excitotoxin that may cause overstimulation of brain cells until they are injured or die thus causing brain damage and possibly activating Lou Gehrig’s illness, Parkinson’s illness and Alzheimer’s illness.
