Dec 18, 2017: Extra belly fat can not only be uncomfortable, but dangerous too. Belly fat is is a dangerous kind of fat as it also includes visceral fat, which is found deep in your abdomen, surrounding your organs.

Large amount of belly fat can increase risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea and premature death, just to name a few.

How to get rid of belly fat

Here are five reasons that can prevent you from losing your belly fat.

You do too many crunches

It has been proved that spot training, or targeting a specific body area, does not help to reduce pounds in that area. So crunches will build muscle that will be hidden under the fat.

You eat too many good fats

Vegetable oils, nuts and avocados that you feel are healthy, are actually sources of healthy fats. So there is always a chance that you may overdo it. Anything more than a handful of nuts as a snack can be a calorie overload.

You don’t get enough sleep

If you don’t get enough sleep, you can add extra pounds to your stomach, say studies. A study from Wake Forest University found people who get less sleep at night weigh more and carry more fat in their abdomen.

You drink diet soda

According to a study, those who drink diet soft drinks gain three times the amount of belly fat than those who don’t. Another study shows that people who drink at least one artificially-sweetened drink a day were 33% more likely to have a stroke and 29% as likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease.

You only lift weights at the gym

A review of 14 studies found that mixed exercise– both cardio and strength training—give you the best results when it comes to reducing belly fat, because cardio burns calories stored as fat and strength training helps to build muscle which burns calories faster.
